EMS Scholarships

MedCare Ambulance and OhioHealth Emergency Medical Services are working together to help launch EMS careers. The EMS Scholarship program launched in December of 2015 with the first class being held later that winter on January 20, 2016. Originally the scholarship program provided opportunities to earn a certification as an EMT, but as a result of its success, it has since been expanded to include an EMT-to-Paramedic option. Each scholarship covers the cost of the course, excluding books, and are awarded on a first come, first serve basis for those who pass the screening process and agree to the terms and conditions* that apply.

EMT Scholarship Track

For individuals seeking to begin a career in EMS:

  • 20 scholarships available each year
  • Scholarships will cover the full cost of an OhioHealth EMT class excluding textbooks
  • Upon graduation, EMTs will have immediate full-time employment as a MedCare Ambulance Partner with benefits including:
    • health, vision and dental insurance,
    • immediate PTO accrual,
    • and a 403b retirement package
  • National Registery refresher courses and other continuing education provided on-site
  • Be a part of an industry-leading team putting Patients First

EMT-to-Paramedic Scholarship Track

For individuals certified as an EMT and seeking to advance to Paramedic:

  • 20 scholarships available each year
  • Scholarships will cover the full cost of an OhioHealth Paramedic class, excluding textbooks, taught on-site at MedCare Ambulance
  • Paid training, if employed full time as an EMT at MedCare Ambulance, to include:
    • 40 hour work week split between time spent in the classroom and scheduled for duty as an EMT (paid work week excludes clinical hours and ride-along requirements),
    • full benefits
  • National Registery refresher courses and other continuing education provided on-site
  • Be a part of an industry-leading team putting Patients First

Application Submission Instructions

Scholarship applications may be submitted to Human Resources in one of the following ways:

  1. Either in person or mail to 3699 Paragon Drive, Columbus, OH 43228,
  2. by fax 614-751-6851,
  3. a signed and scanned application can be submitted via email to hr@medcareambulance.org,

*All scholarship recipients are required to take the course through OhioHealth EMS. Recipients of an EMT Scholarship agree to work for MedCare Ambulance for a period of at least 1 year (2 years for EMT to Paramedic) in order to have the full cost of the course paid for. MedCare Ambulance will prorate the remaining balance for any recipient who chooses to terminate their employment early. The program may be attended without an agreement of employment, but the student is required to pay for the full cost of the class. See application for details.
